Cambio Cumbre have finished their first three rounds with 4 points.
Cumbre began their SFA tournament against a strong and youthful Fitzroy (VIC) side who were missing Futsalroo Duo Fernando De Moraes and Adam Cooper.
Futsalroo Dean Lockhart opened the scoring for Cumbre. A great team goal initiated by Lockhart with several passes drawing out the defense until Lockhart passed back to keeper Robbie Maiorana. Maiorana released a quick long pass into the path of Loackhart’s deep run on the left flank. Lockhart managed to reach Maiorana’s perfectly weighted ball and place it into the top right corner on a tight angle with his first touch.
Fitzroy came back into the game when mid way through the second half, Almesbahi’s soft square ball across goal was intercepted by East Timor international Kui Mu. Mu finished his chance to level the score. Fitzroy took the lead when Cumbre conceded a 6th foul. Maiorana brilliantly save the 10 meter penalty, but Mu latched onto the loose ball to secured his brace. The scores remained 2-1 and Cumbre begun their campaign with a loss in round 1.
In the second match of the day, Gepps Cross (SA) shocked Cumbre by taking a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game.
The introduction of Vinicius De Aguilar Silva lead to one of the goals of the tournament. A corner chipped to the other side of the court found an unmarked Vinicius, as he struck a superb volley into the back of the net. Shortly after, Zeballos beat his man and found sixteen year old Tom Penman unmarked in front of goal. Penman managed to round the keeper and shoot. His shot was saved on the line by a defender however, Penman managed to finish the rebound to put Cumbre level before the break. Early in the second half U16s SFA MVP Tyler Garner put Cumbre up when he found himself in space with only the keeper to beat. Garner finished near post to put Cumbre in the lead. Late into the second half, Vinicius had possession on the half way line, played a long ball in the air to the back post where Zeballos headed the ball past the Gepps keeper. With less than 2 minutes remaining, Zeballos won the ball deep in Cumbres half and burst down the line to find Vinicius back post on his own. Vinicius rounded the keeper and placed the ball into an empty net. Gepps managed to salvage a late goal before the whistle.
The final game saw Cumbre come up against Victorian rivals Pascoe Vale. Both sides are looking for their record 4th Series Futsal title and this was arguably the most anticipated group stage match of the tournament. The scores were deadlocked until mid way through the first half, Lockheart gained possession of a loose ball in the middle of the court and brilliantly played two consecutive one-two’s with Zeballos, leaving him with an empty net to pass the ball into. Shortly after, Zeballos won the ball deep in his half, beat his man and laid of the ball to Tyler Garner who made a clever wide run on the other side of the court. Garner made no mistake and shot the ball into an empty net with a first touch. Less than 5 minutes later, Cumbre won a free kick 10 meters from goal. Lockhart played a square ball to Zeballos who laid it off for Lockharts follow up run. Lockhart struck a low shot past the Pascoe keeper to extend the lead to three. In the second half Pascoe Vale stormed back returning three unanswered goals to force a point for the two sides.
Cumbre go into the last round level on points with WA rivals Stirling who the play for a Semi-Finals birth tomorrow morning 740am AWST.
